Nine Shocking Moments Caught on Dash Cams

An increasing number of drivers around the world have fitted dash cams to their vehicles, to help them stay safe and bring down insurance premiums.

But this means there are also now few hiding places for bad drivers, with other shocking incidents on the roads often captured for social media to see too.

The LeaseCar.uk team have searched the depths of Twitter to find nine crazy bits of dash cam footage from across the globe over recent weeks, that really need to be seen to be believed.

  1. First responders fall victim

Dashcam video shows a U-Haul slam into Oklahoma firefighters. Police said both were OK with no broken bones. https://t.co/hCdtZZdJtM pic.twitter.com/NfEHdGbmE6

These American firefighters responding to an incident in damp conditions miraculously managed to walk away unscathed, without any nasty breaks or major injuries, when a rubber-necker lost control of their trailer.

  1. Where not to overtake

WATCH: Dashcam has captured the heart-stopping moment a car flips into the path of another vehicle in Adelaide.

This driver in Adelaide, Australia, seems to realise overtaking on a blind corner was a bad idea, but it’s too late for them to safely re-join the flow of traffic.

  1. A close call in the UK

Taking a risk? We can’t be everywhere, but cameras can; dashcam, helmet or mobile phone. Driver in this clip was sent on a driver improvement course due to previous clean record. An exhibition in bad driving from western England here, as this overtaking driver shows little special or speed awareness. Hopefully there wasn’t a horse inside the trailer.

  1. Trooper saves driver from train

Dashcam video shows Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Ruben Correa pulling over and running up to a car on train tracks early Wednesday. Trooper Correa said he pulled the unconscious driver out seconds before a train hit the car. UHP says the driver and trooper are safe. pic.twitter.com/QNm1O0sipw

It’s always best to play it safe and slow down when driving in the rain, as this Chinese driver’s near miss shows. The car coming the other way seems to think they’re driving in a video game and there won’t be consequences.

  1. Time to reverse – nothing to see here…

A dashcam captured a ship carrying petroleum products in Ulsan, SKorea, explode. The ship’s captain and 25 crew members were all rescued. The explosion is being investigated to find the cause.#OneVoice1

Definitely not what you’d expect to see when driving towards this South Korean bridge. Most drivers would probably have backed up too.

  1. Tyre change nearly turns to disaster

TERRIFYING VIDEO: A reminder to move over when passing a police cruiser with its lights on.

An Ohio trooper's dashcam captured the scene when a U-Haul struck his cruiser while he was fixing a tire on a disabled car. https://t.co/we7gPbtGXs pic.twitter.com/yxhfA0UTK8

This American police vehicle’s flashing lights should have been a clue to passing motorists, to steer clear of the incident the officer is attending to and reduce their speed too. Apparently, it wasn’t.

  1. Russian road surprise

Most British drivers have experienced their fair share of weather problems on the UKs roads, but few will have encountered anything like motorists in this clip from Russia.
